This is my Guilt free  version of bread pakoras. I have sneaked in some grated cucumber to give it a different taste. Added  a lot of cilantro and green chillies to boost up the flavor. Used wheat bread instead of white bread. And yes did not deep fried it, it is a shallow fry version. In all a healthy substitute of traditional deep fried pakoras without compromising on taste. Do give it a try and soon it will become your family favorite snack.

  • 1 cup Besan (Gram flour)
  • 1/2 cup Sooji (Semolina)
  • 1 cup grated Cucumber
  • 1 Green Chilli Finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped Cilantro (Dhaniya) also known as Coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ajwain (Carom Seeds)
  • A pinch of Baking Soda ( OPTIONAL)
  • Water to adjust the consistency of batter
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee or Vegetable oil
  • 4 slices of Bread ( Wheat or White your choice)

  • Sift besan. Add sooji, spices, and water. Using a whisk  or spoon mix, everything making sure there are no lumps. Add ajwain, grated cucumber, green chilies and cilantro.
  • The consistency of the batter is same as pakora batter. It is neither too thick nor too runny.
  • Cut bread into 4 pieces and dip it  in the prepared batter.
  • Now in a nonstick pan heat some oil and drop the bread pakoras gently. On low-medium flame fry the bread pieces on both sides until they are golden brown and crispy.
